A Timeless Oakdale RVA Wedding | Gabrielle and Markens | Virginia Wedding Photographer

My cup overflows. I’ve been looking forward to Markens and Gabi’s wedding day for so long, and now I get to share it with you! These two have such a special bond and story. When you’re around them, you can’t help but smile.

Gabi and Markens met when Gabi took a gap year in Haiti following her high school graduation. She thought she would simply be helping out in an orphanage, but God had more in store. He crossed their paths, and that’s where it all began.

I remember when Gabi was texting me looking for a beautiful wedding venue that could be flexible on dates since we weren’t sure when Markens would make it to Virginia from Haiti. Gabi stumbled upon Oakdale, where her dream and vision started coming to life. It was the most perfect backdrop to the beginning of their forever.

When I arrived at Oakdale on Saturday, I was filled with so much joy thinking about how important my job is. I photograph the most exciting once in a lifetime moments. Knowing that Markens’ family wouldn’t be able to attend the wedding in person, I also felt the heaviness that this job brings—once in a lifetime. I wanted to photograph Markens and Gabi’s day so perfectly for them, but also for Markens’ family.

One of my favorite moments from Markens and Gabi’s wedding happened during the first look. Gabi was standing behind Markens. He had his eyes closed and Gabi signaled him to turn around. He stood like a statue, still with his back to her, and said “Why is my heart beating so fast?” Gabi placed her hand on his arm. He turned to face her with tears streaming down his face. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Markens since I met him, it’s that he adores Gabi and would do anything to make her happy. Throughout the day, I couldn’t help but notice their joy—it’s contagious. They are happiest when they’re together, and complement one another so perfectly.

I don’t take for granted the fact that I get the opportunity to be a small part of my couples’ stories. I’m so grateful for this job and this calling that God has placed on my heart to love others and serve them well.

Gabi and Markens, thank you for inviting me to celebrate your big day. My heart is so full.
